# Modified electron-stopping model and the secondary-electron distribution in a weakly ionized gas

## Abstract

The model based on continuous electron slowing is modified. The model takes account of the energy lost by electrons in collisions with ionization of molecules. An integral equation is derived to describe the energy spectrum of the secondary electrons in this modified slowing model. The solution of the equation is expressed in terms of two known quantities: the differential cross section for molecular ionization and the energy lost per unit length by an electron in elastic collisions and in collisions that cause molecular excitation. The modified model is compared with the earlier physical model. The range of applicability of the modified model is discussed.
