Rapid growth model and the pion-proton charge-exchange reaction at small momentum transfers

It is shown that the rapid growth model combined with the hypothesis of logarithmic growth with energy of the Coulomb phase in ..pi../sup + -/p scattering gives a good description of all the existing experimental data on the pion-proton charge-exchange reaction, including the most recent Serpukhov data on the polarization at p/sub lab/ = 40 GeV/c (I. A. Abbakumov et al., Preprint IHEP, 81--93, Serpukhov, 1981).
