Title: Details of the thermal desorption of helium from nickel

Journal Article · · Sov. At. Energy (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

An attempt has been made to qualitatively compare the kinetics of thermal desorption of helium during linear heating of nickel samples which are models of hexagon-centered cubic metals and analogs to austenitic stainless steels. The samples were saturated with helium either through direct implantation or by nuclear reactions. The following procedures were used: irradiation in a thermal IRT-2000 reactor or in a fast BOR-60 reactor; irradiation with 225-MeV electrons or in a cyclotron with 0-29-MeV alpha particles; and saturation with a tritium procedure or from the plasma of a glow discharge. The amount of helium in the samples was experimentally determined by evaporation in a vacuum and subsequent mass spectroscopy of the liberated gas. Results are tabulated.
