Title: Violation of scale invariance in the pionization region in going from accelerator to superhigh energies

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Nucl. Phys. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

A great amount of experimental data on muons, hadrons, and photons and their families in the atmosphere and on extensive air showers are compared to calculations carried out using the same interaction model. It is shown that the experimental data are consistent with scale invariance in the incident-hadron fragmentation region (or the limiting-fragmentation hypothesis) and with its violation in the pionization region when the multiplicity increases approx.E/sub pioniz//sup 0.4en-dash0.5/. This violation causes the effective cross section for the interaction of hadrons with air nuclei to increase, which is consistent with the data up to E/sub 0/approx.10/sup 6/TeV.
