Title: State of transition metals and their distribution in the surface layers of crystals of high-silica zeolites. II. XPS study of the interaction of Rh-containing zeolites with bicyclo(2. 2. 1)hepta-2,5-diene and hydrogen

The authors have shown that the state of rhodium and its surface concentration in NaTsVM zeolites depend on the preparation conditions (ion exchange, soaking) and pretreatment. In cation-exchanged samples, the Rh(III) is uniformly distributed over the zeolite crystal and the Rh(O) formed upon reduction has high dispersion. The reaction of Rh/NaTsVM with H/sub 2/ or norbornadiene (NBD) under mild conditions (130-150/degree/C) lead to stabilization of a significant part of the rhodium in the form of Rh(I), and apparently a complex is formed of the type NBD-Rh(I)-O/sub zeolite/.
