Crystal and molecular structure of (C/sub 10/H/sub 10/N/sub 2/) (Np(NO/sub 3/)/sub 6/)/centered dot/2H/sub 2/O. Stereoisomerism of the Neptunium (IV) hexanitrate complex
The crystal structure of (C/sub10/H/sub 10/N/sub 2/)(Np(NO/sub 3/)/sub 6/)/centered dot/2H/sub 2/O has been determined (CAD4 SDP autodiffractometer). The unit cell parameters are: a = 1.5620 (2), b = 1.0190 (1), c = 1.4799 (2) nm; Pna2/sub 1/ space group, Z = 4, /rho//sub calc/ = 2.28 g/cm/sup 3/, R = 0.0258, R/sub W/ = 0.0334 (2604 reflections, 352 parameters; all nonhydrogen atoms were refined by full matrix least squares using anisotropic thermal approximations). The principal structural elements are (Np(NO/sub 3/)/sub 6/)/sup 2-/ anions and C/sub 10/H/sub 10/N/sub 2//sup 2+/ (2,2/prime/-dipyridinium) cations, and two molecules of water of crystallization. The (Np(NO/sub 3/)/sub 6/)/sup 2/minus// anion is composed of six nitrate ions which are coordinated in a bidentate fashion to the central Np/sup 4+/ ion. The average NppO distance is 0.2505 (7) nm, and the coordination polyhedron about Np is a distorted icosahedron.
