Title: Apparatus for feeding fluidized bed incinerator, and method of autogenic operation of same

Abstract

This invention relates to an improved method and apparatus for continuous autogenic incineration of high-moisture easily friable combustible agglomerates in a fluidized-bed. The improvement comprises introducing the waste materials into the bed in a tube of air provided by supplemental air means which surrounds the in-bed feed means.

  • A bed of solid particles on an air distributor of a fluidizedbed furnace is fluidized by upward currents of air fed through the distributor.   • This patent describes a coal burning boiler having a dense bed column with a closed end and opening into a combustion chamber, and a source of coal. The improvement described here comprises: (a) coal processing mill means adapted to receive coal from the source and having a first outlet conduit connected to a the dense bed column adjacent the closed end and a second outlet conduit connected to the dense bed column spaced from the connection of the first outlet conduit to the dense bed column; (b) means supplying air into the coal processing mill means for stripping fine particulatemore » fractions and delivering the same into the first outlet conduit for injection into the dense bed column; (c) means in the second outlet conduit connection operable to feed coarse particulate fractions into the dense bed column for supplying coarse coal fractions into the column spaced from the injection of fines into the column; and (d) air supply means connected into the dense bed column adjacent the closed end of the dense bed column for fluidizing the fine and coarse coal fractions in the dense bed column.« less
  • The specification describes a method and means for controlling operation of a fluidized bed combustion apparatus. In the proposals embodied in the invention the supply of combustion air fed to the fluidized bed is augmented by inert gas (Preferably waste gas taken from a low temperature outlet of the apparatus) and the proportion of inert gas used to augment the combustion supporting air is variable in dependence upon the temperature of the fluidized bed in the apparatus and/or the thermal demand placed upon the apparatus. In described embodiments of means enabling the invention to be effected arrangements are described includingmore » an induced draft fan, coupled to the outlet for waste gas of the apparatus, for feeding waste gas to a mixer and the use of a two input mixer fan coupled to both atmosphere and a waste gas supply line connected to a waste gas outlet. The volume of waste gas supplied is controllable in dependence upon the temperature of the bed in the apparatus and/or the thermal demand placed on the apparatus. The rate at which fuel is fed to the apparatus may also be controlled in dependence upon the thermal demand placed on the apparatus.« less
  • Fluidizing gas supply pipes are passed through a wall of a fluidized bed container. The outermost end of the gas supply pipe is welded to a tube plate and the tube plate is in turn cooled by a coolant flowing thereagainst through tubes welded to the surface of the tube plate or the tube plate is spaced from the wall of the container to form a water jacket through which the coolant fluid is arranged to flow.
