The impacts that climate anomolies have had on energy systems in the United States, and the resulting impacts on society are described. It is pointed out that better use of climate information could alleviate some of the adverse consequences of these anomalies. Finally, the possibility of international cooperation in using climate information to avoid potentially worsening conditions during a gloval energy shortage is examined.
