Title: Bulk storage and transfer of cryogenic fluids-A survey

Abstract

Since 1981 the literature relating to the storage and transfer of cryogenic fluids has focused increasing attention on two applications. These are applications involving large superconducting magnets and long flight-time experiments in space. Large containment vessel designs for bulk storage of LNG continue to be examined, in addition to methods of transfer of these fluids to avoid ''roll-over'' behavior and to assure better fire safety. Hydrogen-fueled vehicle application studies are also described. Recent literature also includes results of research on heat transfer of thermal insulations. This includes foams and multilayer types of insulation as well as discussion of thermal radiation shielding and fabrication and measurement of low emittance surfaces. References on vacuum-sealing techniques for cryogenic vessels as well as leak detection methods are included.
