Title: Lattice dynamics of GaN/AlN superlattices

Abstract

Phonon dispersion curves of cubic (001)-(GaN){sub n}/(AlN){sub n} (n=1{endash}4) superlattices for various propagating directions are calculated. Short-range interactions up to the second-nearest neighbors are described by using a two-parameter Keating model, and the long-range Coulomb interactions are included via an Ewald summation. Raman spectra are calculated by a bond-polarizability model. The confinement of optical modes is discussed. The anisotropies of the zone-center optical phonons are investigated. {copyright} {ital 1997 American Institute of Physics.}
