Binding energy of H/sub 3/ /sup +/ from the analysis of angular and energy distributions of the reaction H/sub 3/ /sup +/+He. -->. H/sub 2/ /sup +/ +H +He

We have applied both angular and energy distribution measurements of the collision-induced dissociation of a-few-keV H/sub 3/ /sup +/ in He to estimate the binding energy of the triatomic molecular ion H/sub 3/ /sup +/. Our measured value of 6.3 +- 0.5 eV below the dissociation energy agrees well with previous theoretical predictions and experiment.
