Title: Long-term ice storage for cooling applications using passive freezing techniques. [With heat pipes]

Abstract

The objective of this project is to develop a cost-effective method of solar cooling using natural ice formation in the winter to provide year-round cooling needs. A concept of natural ice formation that freezes the ice where it will be stored by means of passive refrigeration devices (modified heat pipes) is described. The project is composed of three phases, an initial experimental phase, construction and testing of a prototype device, and interactions with potential users and manufacturers. Preliminary results of this study are presented.
