A scenario for the containment failure of Baneberry. Topical report, 1 October 1974-31 October 1975

A ground motion calculation for the Baneberry nuclear event is described here. A scenario is presented which indicates that the containment failure was due to the lack of a 'mystical, magical membrane' around the Baneberry cavity. This membrane failed to form due to the negligible yield strength of the working point material which was over 50% montmorillonite clay.
