The oxycarbonate Y[sub 1. 6]Ca[sub 0. 4]Ba[sub 4]Cu[sub 5]CO[sub 3]O[sub 11], n = 2 member of the [open quotes]123[close quotes]-type derivatives (Y[sub 1[minus]x]Ca[sub x])[sub n]Ba[sub 2n]Cu[sub 3n[minus]1]CO[sub 3]O[sub 7n[minus]3]
- Universite de Caen (France)
The exploration of the system Y-Ba-Cu-C-O, using high resolution electron microscopy, has allowed the oxycarbonate Y[sub 1.6]Ca[sub 0.4]Ba[sub 4]Cu[sub 5]O[sub 11]CO[sub 3] to be isolated. This 123 derivative phase is characterized by the superstructure a [approx] 2a[sub 123], b [approx] b[sub 123], c [approx] 2c[sub 123]. It corresponds to the ordered replacement of one chain of CuO[sub 4] square planar groups out of two by one row of carbonate groups, involving the formation of chains of CuO[sub 5] pyramids running along b. This oxide, which is the first one derived from the pure barium superconductor Y[sub 1[minus]x]Ca[sub x]Ba[sub 2]Cu[sub 3]O[sub 7], can be described as the n = 2 member of the 123-type derivatives with the generic formulation (Y[sub 1[minus]x]Ca[sub x])[sub n]Ba[sub 2n]Cu[sub 3n[minus]1]CO[sub 3]O[sub 7n[minus]3]. 9 refs., 4 figs.
