The purpose of this paper is to describe the work being performed at Combustion Engineering to establish appropriate frequencies for performing tests. This methodology can be used to provide confidence that the surveillance test intervals (STIs) in the technical specifications of a nuclear power plant are adequate to ensure safe operation of the plant, while optimizing their impact on the facility. The methodology is being employed in the reformatting of the standard technical specifications as part of the industry effort to improve technical specifications.
