Title: Corrosion and cathodic protection of a steel grounding system in a power plant in the Peoples Republic of China

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5614465

Copper has been the material normally used for grounding systems in the United States. Based on economic considerations, other countries, such as the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) and India have been using carbon steel for grounding systems. This paper briefly discusses the advantages and disadvantages of this material for us in grounding systems and the experience of the author in working with PRC engineers in identifying possible corrosion problems and designing and testing a cathodic protection system for the steel grounding grid of a 600 MW Power Plant.
