We have been exploring the synthesis, structure and reactivity of high-valent organo-f-element complexes supported by multiply-bonded functional groups such as organo(imido) ligands. Depending on the nature of the R group in the uranium(VI) bis(imido) complex Cp*{sub 2}U(NR){sub 2}, differing rates of hydrogenation to produce the uranium(IV) bis(amido) complex Cp*{sub 2}U(NHR){sub 2} are observed. Silanes also reduce the uranium(VI) bis(imido) complexes. The addition of phenylsilane to Cp*{sub 2}U(NR){sub 2} yields the uranium(IV) amido complex Cp*{sub 2}U(NHR)(NRSiH{sub 2}Ph). We have undertaken kinetic studies varying the R group on the organo(imido) ligand to elucidate the nature of the uranium imido bond.
