Title: Characterization of duplex stainless steels by TEM (transmission electron microscopy), SANS (small-angle neutron scattering), and APFIM (atom-probe field ion microscopy) techniques. [Iron Base, Chromium Rich Alloys]

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5575959

Results are presented of complementary characterization of aged duplex stainless steels by advanced metallographic techniques, including transmission and high-voltage electron microscopies; small-angle neutron scattering; and atom-probe field ion microscopy. On the basis of the characterization, the mechanisms of aging embrittlement have been shown to be associated with the precipitation of Ni- and Si-rich G phase and Cr-rich ..cap alpha..' in the ferrite, and M/sub 23/C/sub 6/ carbides on the austenite-ferrite phase boundaries. 19 refs., 19 figs., 1 tab.
