The Subcommittee on Merchant Marine and Tourism heard on April 2, 1979, testimony on Senate Resolution No. 87, the Warner resolution. The resolution recognizes that it is necessary to be concerned that all segments of the travel industry be treated fairly in an allocation of energy supplies or other actions by Federal agencies to meet any actual or threatened petroleum emergencies. The concern stems from the social and economic importance of travel and tourism to the nation. According to statistics, travel expenditures totaled $148 billion in 1978 and supports about 5 million jobs directly and indirectly. The importance of tourism and recreation to the health and well-being of citizens is recognized. The text of the resolution is presented.
