/sup 24/Mg(/sup 12/C,. cap alpha. )/sup 32/S reaction from E/sub 12C/ = 24-36 MeV

The /sup 24/Mg(/sup 12/C..cap alpha../sub 0,1/)/sup 32/S reaction has been investigated in the energy range E/sub lab/ = 24--36 MeV. Excitation curves taken at forward (0/sup 0/) and backward (173/sup 0/) angles show striking disimilarities in both the ..cap alpha../sub 0/ and ..cap alpha../sub 1/ channels. Complete angular distributions in the ..cap alpha../sub 0/ channel taken at selected energies do not resemble the square of a single Legendre polynomial over the full angular range. It is concluded that previous spin assignments to suggested isolaated resonances using this reaction cannot be substantiated.
