Ln(Fe/sup 3 +/M/sup 2 +/)O/sub 4/ compounds with layer structure (Ln: Y, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu, M : Mg, Mn, Co, Cu, and Zn)
Abstract
A series of new compounds Ln(Fe/sup 3 +/M/sup 2 +/)O/sub 4/ (Ln : Y, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu, M : Mg, Mn, Co, Cu, and Zn) were successfully synthesized and their lattice constants were determined. These compounds have the same crystal structure as YbFe/sub 2/O/sub 4/ and Fe/sup 3 +/ and M/sup 2 +/ are both surrounded by five oxygen ions forming a trigonal bipyramid. The synthetic conditions are presented. They are strongly dependent upon the constituent cations of the compound.
