The reactions ..pi../sup +/p ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/n..pi../sup +/..pi../sup 0/ and ..pi../sup +/p ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/p..pi../sup 0/..pi../sup 0/ are selected at 15.7 GeV/c incident ..pi../sup +/ momentum to isolate and study associated production of ..delta../sup +//N*/sup +/ baryons and rho/sup +/ mesons. The data were acquired at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center 40 inch hybrid bubble chamber facility. A lead-glass wall was added to detect the photons from ..pi../sup 0/ decays. The data sample consisted of 40K two-prong events taken from a total of 666K pictures representing an untriggered sensitivity of 23 events/..mu..barn. The ..delta../sup +/rho/sup +/ production mechanism is studied by fitting the decay angular distributions to the spin density matrix element parameters in the Gottfried-Jackson reference frame. The reaction ..gamma..p ..-->.. ..delta../sup + +/rho/sup -/ is studied using a 20 GeV/c linearly polarized backscattered laser beam at the same SLAC detector facility. The data sample consisted of 130K three-prong events representing a sensitivity of 2.4 events/nanobarn. The photoproduction of ..delta../sup + +/rho/sup -/ is studied to determine the feasibility of using this reaction in conjunction with ..pi.. induced ..delta..rho production to measure the radiative width of the rho vector meson. The reactions /sup - +/p ..-->.. x/sup +/pX/sup 0/ and ..pi../sup +/p ..-->.. x/sup +/px/sup +/x/sup -/X/sup 0/ are studied at 15.7 GeV/c in a search for new, long-lived, neutral, particles. No evidence is found for any new particles and upper limits of 0.53 mbarns and 0.26 mbarns respectively are placed on their production cross sections.
