A survey is presented of work on the fine clarification of coal liquefaction products. It describes the state-of-the-art in distillation, critical solvent de-ashing, filtration, centrifuging, magnetic and electrostatic separation. Filtration with auxiliary substances is the most promising process. The paper describes the basic properties of filtration powders and ways of producing them both in the USSR and abroad.
