Title: Elastic scattering of electrons by N/sub 2/, O/sub 2/, and CO in the energy range 0. 1--3 keV

Elastic differential cross sections for the scattering of electrons from N/sub 2/, CO, and O/sub 2/ are calculated at intermediate and high energies using the second order eikonal approximation and the multiple scattering approach due to Glauber in the independent atom model. The polarization potential describing the long range and nonlocal dynamic effects has been included. The second order eikonal approximation results show an improvement over those obtained in the first order eikonal approximation at scattering angles THETA< or =30/sup 0/ and compare favorably with the available absolute experimental measurements. The interference of single and double scattering terms is investigated.
