Title: A test of a flamelet model for turbulent nonpremixed combustion

Abstract

The influence of chemical kinetics on the turbulent combustion of nonpremixed reactants in considered. Several tests of the flamelet model developed earlier have been performed. Chemical and hydrodynamical calculations can be effectively decoupled using this model since it predicts the dependence of temperature and reacting species concentration only on conserved scalar and scalar dissipation. Calculations of mean C[sub n]H[sub m], NO[sub x], OH, and CO concentrations and maximum flame temperature are found to be in satisfactory agreement with data obtained in jet diffusion flames. It is found that the influence of finite rate of chemical reaction is significant even in cases far from the flame extinction. Limitations of the model are discussed.
