Application of the regularization method in probe studies of plasma electron energy spectra

We propose using the Tikhonov regularization method to improve the energy resolution of the equipment used to record electron energy distribution functions. We employed this method to analyze the electron energy distribution function for energies 10-20 eV in a helium afterglow and succeeded in determining for the first time the rate constant for the 2/sup 1/S--2/sup 1/S reaction in which metastable 2/sup 1/S atoms collide.(AIP)
