The crystal structure of neodymium 2-methoxybenzoate tetrahydrate Nd(2-CH/sub 3/OC/sub 6/-H/sub 5/COO)/sub 3/ x 4H/sub 2/O has been investigated by x-ray diffraction analysis. (Hilger-Watts Y-290 automatic diffractometer, lambdaMo K..cap alpha.., 4052 independent reflections, least-squares refinement in the anisotropic-isotropic approximation to R = 0.044). The unit-cell parameters are: a = 11.493(5), b = 13.782(7), c = 9.084(5) A, ..cap alpha.. = 96.14(2), ..beta.. = 105.74(2), ..gamma.. = 70.83(2)/sup 0/, Z = 2, space group P anti 1. the structure is built up from centrosymmetric binuclear complexes with the formula (Nd/sub 2/(CH/sub 3/OC/sub 6/H/sub 4/COO)/sub 6/(H/sub 2/O)/sub 4/) and molecules of water of crystallization. The coordination number of the Nd atom is equal to 10, and the coordination polyhedron is a distorted bicapped tetragonal antiprism, which is formed by seven oxygen atoms of the carboxyl groups, two water molecules, and the oxygen atom of a methoxy group.
