Utah Process alternative futures, 1975--1990. Introduction and summary. [Use of economic and demographic model]
The purpose of the Utah Process is to improve and coordinate the activities of all levels of government where there are substantial interdependencies. Particularly as it pertains to state government operation, the Utah Process comprises two separate though inter-related components. The first, the administrative cmponent, is concerned with institutionalizing a procedure for developing coordinated contingency plans and budgets by the various state governmental agencies. The second, the technical, component of the Utah Process is concerned with projecting and analyzing the impacts and implications of the Alternative Futures. The Alternative Futures projections reported upon in this Summary are produced through the use of the UPED Model. The model produces projections of levels and composition of future economic and demographic characteristics for the state and substate regions. Further, by comparing projections for different Alternative Futures, the model produces projections of the impacts of the various major developments of which the Futures are composed. (MCW)
