Title: Village electrification: micro-hydro in developing countries

Abstract

While small hydro projects in developing nations represent a promising market - and are badly needed - they also pose unique challenges. Developers and manufacturers must be prepared to cope with major cultural differences, the potential disruption of a subsistence agricultural economy, an almost universal shortage of funds, and assorted other difficulties. The author discusses both the problems and the benefits of Third World hydro development. 4 figures.
