Title: Excitation functions of elastic and inelastic scattering of. cap alpha. particles by /sup 12/C nuclei, and the. cap alpha. -cluster structure of /sup 16/O in the region of excitation energies above 30 MeV

Abstract

Excitation functions have been measured for the elastic and inelastic scattering of ..cap alpha.. particles by /sup 12/C at energies 28--42 MeV, and also angular distributions of ..cap alpha.. particles for six energy values in this range. The data are analyzed jointly with the results of our previous work reported at the 1981 Samarkand Conference (page 401). The observed similarity between the measured excitation functions and deuteron spectra from the reaction /sup 12/C (/sup 6/Li, d)/sup 16/O measured in coincidence with ..cap alpha.. particles from decay of /sup 16/O in our previous work indicates that there is no change in the mechanism of the (/sup 6/Li,d) reaction at high /sup 6/Li energies; the process continues to be the transfer of an ..cap alpha.. particle to the target nucleus. The parameters of the resonances at E/sub ..cap alpha../ = 28.1, 19.1, and 35.8 MeV are evaluated. It is established that there is a /sup 16/O level with spin and parity 10/sup +/(9/sup -/) at excitation energy about 34 MeV with the structure of a /sup 12/C core in the 7.65-MeV (0/sup +/) state and an ..cap alpha.. particle.
