Title: Design and development of a point focus concentrated PV module operating above 100 suns

Abstract

The objective was to design, develop, fabricate and performance test a highly efficient and cost effective concentrated photovoltaic module which can operate above 100 suns concentration, which can be mass produced and is reliable, with minimum maintenance. We chose a point focus module design operating at 120 suns using a molded acrylic Fresnel lens and passively cooled. Four modules were built and tested, and a manufacturing cost analysis was made. The module and components were designed for future high volume production with the use of automated equipment in mind. The module consisted of a lightweight module body fabricated from aluminum sheet stock, a lens parquet assembly and fifteen high efficiency solar cell-heat sink assembly connected in series to produce 55W under normal operating conditions.
