B meson physics with polarized electron beams at the SLC
- Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, Stanford University, Stanford, California 94309 (US)
The expected large cross-section for {ital e}{sup +}{ital e}{sup {minus}}{r arrow}{ital Z}{sup 0} and subsequent decay to {ital bb}{bar b} quarks makes the {ital Z}{sup 0} an attractive place to pursue {ital B} meson physics. In addition the big Electroweak asymmetries, thought to exist in {ital Z}{sup 0} decays to {ital b{bar b}} quarks with polarized electron beams, provide an outstanding handle for observation of such effects at {ital B}{endash}{ital {bar B}}{sup 0} mixing. In this paper, the feasibility of such measurements is investigated and, with relatively small samples of {ital Z}{sup 0}'s (a few hundred thousand), both {ital B}{sub {ital d}} and {ital B}{sub {ital s}} meson mixing are shown to be measurable. The subject of CP violation in neutral {ital B} mesons is discussed last, but presently such measurements seem to be out of reach. (AIP)
