The present SPS (solar power satellite) microwave system has a 1-km (kilometer) antenna illuminated with a 10db Gaussian taper and radiating 6.5 GW of rf (radio frequency) power. New antenna tapers, including several recently proposed in the literature, are investigated in terms of minimizing electricity costs and meeting two environmental constraints. 10 refs.
