  1. General Electric Co., Hickory, NC (United States)

The development of distribution transformers using amorphous metals for the core is an achievement that promises to greatly improve the efficiency of the distribution system. Distribution transformers contribute 60% of all losses on the distribution system with core losses bestowing 45% of the total distribution losses. This two volume report discusses the development of the transformers, and the results of the two-year field trial program. Volume I is non-proprietary, covering the results of the designs considered and the results of the field trial. Volume II is proprietary and is available for license.
