Method for controlling an oxygen concentration detection apparatus with a heater element
A method for controlling an oxygen concentration detection apparatus of an internal combustion engine is described having an exhaust gas passage, which apparatus includes an oxygen concentration sensing element provided in the exhaust gas passage and producing an output signal representing an oxygen concentration in an exhaust gas of the engine and a heater element connected to the oxygen concentration sensing element and operative to heat the oxygen concentration sensing element when a heater current is supplied thereto. The method comprises: a detection step for detecting a temperature of the engine immediately before a start of a supply of the heater current; an a control step for controlling a magnitude of the heater current from the start of the supply of the heater current, for a time period which is determined correspondingly to the temperature of the engine detected by the detection step, to be lower than a magnitude of the heater current after an elapse of the time period.
