New costly lamps address efficiency/color tradeoff

The need for good color rendition as well as energy efficiency has led to new lamps that have a cost premium of 49 to 263% over standard energy-saving lamps. Retailers report improved sales, and industries that use color coding agree that good color rendition is cost-effective. A summary of lamps now on the market reports ratings, costs, and applications. Two directories list 39 major suppliers of lighting fixtures and 37 major suppliers of lamps and ballasts. (DCK)
