Title: Relaxation of the axial concentration differential in a pulsed plasma centrifuge with circulation

Abstract

A theory is derived for the relaxation of the longitudinal concentration differential in a pulsed plasma centrifuge, taking account of internal circulation. A method involving averaging the concentration over the transverse coordinate is used to derive an equation for mass transport in the column when no material is removed. This equation takes into account the effect of the time variation of the separation process on the radial concentration gradient. The exact solution of the time-dependent mass-transport equation is analyzed for the case of a relatively weak counterflow. The relaxation time of the axial effect is estimated when the circulation fluxes are caused by a longitudinal gradient of the plasma temperature.
