Structure of Bernstein Modes in a Nonneutral Plasma Column

An analytical description of Bernstein modes in a nonneutral plasma column is presented and validated using the results of a particle-in-cell simulation. A new collisionless damping mechanism experienced by these modes is demonstrated. {copyright} {ital 1997} {ital The American Physical Society}
