Model of coal devolatilization and combustion in fluidized beds

A mathematical model of the combustion of coal particles in the conditions prevailing in fluidised combustors has been developed. Allowance is made for the evolution and burning of volatiles in addition to the combustion of the residual char. The relative significance of the various steps in the oxidation process of the char is evaluated for the ranges of particle size, temperature and partial pressure of the oxidant of interest in fluidised-bed coal combustion.
