Wind reconstruction from Ku-band or C-band scatterometer data

The problem of wind reconstruction on the sea surface from scatterometer Ku-band or C-band data is considered. The authors consider a scatterometer with three beams (i.e., ERS-1) and they process data points with three measurements or with two measurements (i.e., incomplete data). The procedure that they propose reduces the problem of the wind vector field reconstruction to a sequence of global optimization problems solved with a stochastic global optimization algorithm. This reconstruction procedure appears to be very successful on simulated data obtained using or provided by ESA (C-band data).
