Title: Sensitivity and repair of DNA-membrane complexes of E. coli and B/r E. coli B/sub S-1/ bacteria exposed to gamma quanta

Abstract

There is equal separation of up to 85 percent of the DNA molecules from membranes after exposure of E. coli B/r and E. coli B/sub S-1/ bacteria to ..gamma..-quanta (14-42 krad) in tris-buffer at 0/sup 0/C, with partial repair after incubation of cells in tris-buffer, pH 8.1 at 37/sup 0/C. Brief (2-min) addition of nutrient medium to irradiated cells also increases radioresistance of DNA-membrane complexes, although longer maintenance under these conditions does not lead to additional reunion of DNA and membranes.
