Title: Dynamics of space charge neutralization of a relativistic electric beam in a neutral gas

The dynamics of neutralization of the space charge of a relativistic electron beam with magnetized electrons is studied theoretically for the case when neutralization is due to ionizing collisions of the beam electrons and secondary ions with gas atoms. It is shown that the density of the ions that form peaks at the center of the beam and falls off toward the periphery; neutralization of the Coulomb force produced by the space charge is therefore possible only in the velocity of a fixed point, whose coordinate increases with time.
