Title: Liquid-liquid direct-contact, immiscible fluids heat exchanger analysis

Abstract

A direct-contact heat exchanger has been investigated experimentally in order to obtain data to design a heat exchanger to utilize the energy supplied by a solar pond effectively. During the laboratory tests heat transfer coefficients of 40 kW/m/sup 3/K were achieved at low temperature differentials. The heat was transferred from a 20% weight NaCl-solution to a number of different thermal oils and the results indicated that the heat transfer coefficients are primarily a function of the flow characteristics within the heat exchanger column and not of the physical or the thermal properties of the fluid.
