Title: Future of US mining. [Environmental hazards vs socio-economic benefits]

Journal Article · · Mater. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5246977

The author does not believe the United States is a have-not nation in regard to mineral resources. Mineral potential is still very great. The number of new mineral deposits that have been brought into production since the end of World War II within the United States is significant. Those who determine policy and the public as a whole need to consider the advantages and disadvantages of mineral projects objectively. Lack of attention by the media to mining benefits (jobs, resource development, etc.) has been compounded by media attention to environmental hazards due to mining. The public education to mining issues is necessary to give Americans a clear picture of US mineral resources and their benefits. (SAC)
