Title: Transport and reaction of heavy metals in Alaskan fjord-estuaries. Progress report, April 1, 1976--May 31, 1977

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5246458

Results are reported from on analysis of the seasonal exchange of water between the inner basin of one typical S. Central Alaskan fjord (Resurrection Bay) and the Gulf of Alaska. This work entailed sampling on an approximately bimonthly interval for nearly four years. From this work it appeared that, at certain times of the year, the deep water of Resurrection Bay approximated a closed chemical system permitting study of the behavior of both conservative and (with ancillary information) non-conservative components. A study of the fluxes, sources and sinks for copper in this particular environment was therefore undertaken, and a brief summary of results is presented. Methods used for the chemical analysis of both inorganic and organic soluble species of Cu in seawater reported. Data on the content of soluble Cd, Cu, and Pb in samples of seawater are included.
