Title: Injection locked single mode operation of a TEA CO2 laser with high energy extraction

Reproducible smooth pulses have been generated by using longitudinal mode control of a TEA CO2 laser by signal injection from a CW CO2 laser. The performance of this technique is examined for various injection geometries applicable to both stable and unstable cavity configurations. It is shown that single longitudinal mode selection by injection locking is insensitive to injection beam geometry and is not critically dependent on injection signal power down to values as low as 0.01 mW.
