The Los Alamos Sequence Library is an extensive and self-contained system for collection, computer storage, and analysis of nucleic acid sequences. This report gives prospective users a general overview of the contents and capabilities of the library. The description here is not complete and will not long remain up to date, as both the data and the program repertoire are constantly being improved and expanded. The library is intended to be completely self-explanatory, and it is to the on-line documentation that the user should look for up-to-date information. Comments, criticism, and collaboration are invited.
