A method is described of operating a heat pump system between an upper operating temperature and a lower operating temperature comprising two solid adsorbent beds connected to the condenser and evaporator in a heat pump circuit so that desorbed refrigerant can flow from the bed by being heated into the condenser and refrigerant from the evaporator can flow into the bed being cooled.
