Title: Tidal power, its promises and problems

Journal Article · · Energy Commun.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5162115

Tidal power, a nondepletable source of energy as opposed to petroleum, could produce 18 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually in the United States. This is equivalent to the output of two to three large nuclear plants. Tidal power should be examined because it has a benign effect on the environment and it saves depletable fossil fuels. Evidence from existing tidal power installations and current research shows advantages to be greater than disadvantages. 4 refs.
