Evidence for local excitations of the nucleus from /sup 58/Ni(. cap alpha. ,. cap alpha. 'p) coincidence measurements at E/sup lab//sub. cap alpha. / = 140 MeV

Spectra of protons emitted in coincidence with inelastically scattered ..cap alpha.. particles at E/sup lab//sub ..cap alpha../ = 140 MeV from /sup 58/Ni were measured. Slopes of Maxwellians corresponding to three different energy transfers were evaluated in each case for eight proton emission angles. The obtained results provide evidence for a localized excitation of the target nucleus.
